HOOPS WILL PUT FAITH IN YOUNGSTERS

-

MOTM CAMERON DAWSON (SHEFF WED) CHAIRMAN Tony Fernandes admits QPR have some tough choices coming up.

Jamie Mackie, James Perch and Nedum Onuoha will depart at the end of the season, with youth given priority over experience.

And after Saturday’s win over Birmingham, Fernandes said: “We’re going to have to make some hard decisions over the next few weeks if we’re to keep improving. But there is light. And I’m pleased the hard work is beginning to take shape.

“The key is to get players who want to play for QPR, want to develop, have the right culture and wear the badge with pride.

“Patience is needed and on Saturday I think we saw what can be done with believing in youth mixed with some experience. It was a top performance.”

Che Adams put Birmingham ahead, but Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Ilias Chair (above) – both 20 – replied for Rangers. Matt Smith added a third late on.

Loftus Road boss Ian Holloway paid tribute to his outgoing trio.

He said: “I want to thank them because this year has been tough but they’ve been wonderful behind the scenes.

“Can we now move the place forward? It’s a rebuilding process and I’m delighted with the potential we have here.”

City are two points above the drop zone going into a final-day showdown at home to promotionchasing Fulham. Manager Garry Monk said: “We’ll go onto that pitch in front of a full house, all those Blues fans behind us and give our absolute maximum.”
