ARSENE WENGER admitted Manchester United fans finally warmed to him because he is no longer seen as a threat.

His final game as Arsenal boss at Old Trafford ended in defeat, with Marouane Fellaini heading the winner in added

time. But Wenger paid tribute to United fans for the reception they gave him, joking they respect him now he is no longer a direct rival.

“That shows that, once you’re not a danger any more, people love you,” he said.

Wenger also revealed he remains in limbo over his future, hinting he is ready to take a break once his Arsenal reign ends.

Asked if he could see himself facing Jose Mourinho again next season, the Frenchman said: “I don’t know, honestly.

“He will be at United next season, certainly, and I don’t know where I will be.

“I’ve worked at a top level for 35 years without any interruption and I think I’m the only one who has done that. I’m in unknown territory. Will I take a break? I will be surprised if I meet him next year.”

On his final game against arch-rival Wenger, Mourinho said: “I hope that I play against him again. Who knows, we may still have a big match waiting for us.”

The United boss revealed match-winner Fellaini, out of contract at the end of the season, is close to agreeing a new deal.

“The position is that we are almost there, but in football almost is not enough,” added Mourinho.

“I want to wait until I see the white paper with the United crest and Ed Woodward’s signature on it.”

Wenger revealed David Ospina, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are doubts for Thursday’s Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
