ROBERTO FIRMINO gave Liverpool a massive boost ahead of their Champions League showdown against Roma by signing a new £45million contract.

There were fears Firmino would follow close friend Philippe Coutinho out of Anfield, but instead he has extended his current deal until 2023.

The Brazil star, 26, whose

five-year agreement is worth £180,000 a week, said: “It was an easy decision.”

Now Liverpool will try to persuade player-of-theyear Mo Salah to remain at Anfield too. Firmino added: “The club have taken me in in an incredible way, and I’ve grown a lot here with the support of the whole team. I am very, very happy here.

“Everything fits in the best possible way. My teammates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play with them at this club. “The fans are fantastic in how they support us all the way.” Firmino has been in talks over a new deal for months, with the Anfield board keen to tie him up on improved terms following the departure of Coutinho (left) to Barcelona in January. Klopp has also confirmed that Sadio Mane will be fit to play against Roma on Wednesday.
