Training fund ‘not working’

BUSINESS leaders will today demand an urgent summit with ministers to discuss reforms to the apprenticeship levy.

Employers with wage bills of at least £3million must pump 0.5% into a Government training fund.

But the number of new apprentices has fallen by a quarter since it was launched last year.

Manufacturers’ group EEF said: “Its impact has been highly damaging.”
