Wright move for Matthew’s wife

Matthew Wright says his marriage was the real reason he decided to quit The Wright Stuff after 18 years.

The presenter, 52, admitted the 3am wake-up calls were becoming a struggle and he barely saw wife Amelia Wright during the week.

Speaking on his show yesterday, he told panellist Anne Diamond: “You know better than most the demands of getting up for a daytime show. I got to bed at half-seven. Mrs Wright, we pass like ships in the night and you’re looking around like at some point there’s got to be a change.” Matthew also admitted he couldn’t believe the support he got online after the announcement.

He said: “Normally you come off the show and it’s you’re this, you’re that and I hope you die a hideous death.

“Yesterday people were really nice and I felt quite overwhelmed.”

It is not yet known who will take over the Channel 5 show. Yesterday Matthew hinted there was a “big announcement” to come.
