Fans give Big Sam backing
SAM ALLARDYCE was handed a boost by Everton fans at their awards night.
Big Sam has received heavy criticism from Blues supporters in recent weeks.
During their 2-0 win at Huddersfield on Saturday, Everton fans unfurled a banner – referring to a supporters’ panel survey – which read: “Our survey says... get out of our club.”
But at the Blues’ end of season dinner, where keeper Jordan Pickford won all the major awards, Allardyce was well received.
He has led Everton to eighth spot in the Premier League since taking over in November, and Mirror Sport understands that fans personally approached him on Tuesday night to show their support. FROM BACK PAGE said: “I think I’d like to finish my job well. A man has to give his best and show commitment and energy.
“Until the last day, I will focus on Arsenal. I want to finish this love story well.”
Diego Simeone’s men have lost just two home games all season and have not conceded at the Wanda since January.
But manager Wenger, who leaves Arsenal this summer after 22 years, added: “The history has to stop somewhere. That’s what we will try to do.
“We created chances in the first game. We just didn’t manage to put those chances in the net. We will keep exactly the same commitment.”
Arsenal have yet to win away from home in the Premier League this year, but Wenger added: “In Europe we have done well away. We have neglected a the Premier League a bit away from home.”
