NIGEL THOMPSON
Home means where I lived for about a decade until the age of 14 - my parents’ semi in a small East Anglian town. We then moved to a bigger house that wasn’t even near the middle of nowhere and loads of my mates lived close by.
We had a school playing field for lots of jumpers-for-goalposts, next-goal-wins footy and hopeless attempts to fly balsa wood toy gliders.
Best of all, our garden led on to a large orchard, a paradise for den-building, tree-climbing (and falling out of), apple, pear and plum appropriation and general mucking about.
And, of course, the boys-willbe-boys stuff it’s best not to encourage kids to do today.
