YOUR SHOUT

-

Fiona, I usually like reading your page, but your piece on Alfie Evans’ family was very unsettling. No one would argue that abusing the staff at Alder Hey Hospital is acceptable behaviour, but your subsequent attack on Christians was uncalled for.

It’s clear that Alfie’s family are Christians whose faith has helped them through this terrible ordeal. Using their decision to employ Christians to support their case as an opportunity to slate the faith was inappropriate and disrespectful. Denise via e-mail

Fiona, I agree with you about religion in general, but particularly fundamental belief, which I see as an excuse for bad people to dress up as good. Or Judas dressed up as Jesus, as I like to say. We’d be better off without the whole damn thing. Bob V via e-mail

Fiona, I think what has come out of the whole Alfie Evans tragedy is the maturity and fortitude of the two very young parents, who behaved with absolute dignity while all around them was madness. Amy via e-mail FP: Same here Amy – they’re a credit to parenthood.

Fiona, I do think we should stop expecting a nanny state to look after our health and welfare. It’s a bit rich that the NHS is being blamed for women not receiving an ‘invitation’ for breast screening.

Surely the onus is on us to make sure we do all we can to protect our health. Our healthcare is free – it’s our responsibility to make sure we take advantage of the services our NHS provides. Colette via e-mail
