DANI UP FOR CUP AGAIN

POPE: SORRY ARSENE BUT WE NEED A RESULT

- BY LINDSAY SUTTON BY JOHN CROSS BY JOHN CROSS

BURNLEY keeper Nick Pope aims to be a party pooper at Arsene Wenger’s home league farewell – but with the greatest of respect.

The 26-year-old England hopeful (right) admitted: “We may need another point to be absolutely sure of Europa League football next season, so we’re going to the Emirates to get a result.

“We’ve pricked a lot of balloons already this season, and go to Arsenal to do the same – we may be unwanted guests at the party.”

But Pope has great respect for the man who became Gunners boss 22 years ago – when the keeper was just four years old.

He added: “He created the Invincibles, he revolutionised the game. He’s a great manager and ambassador for the game. It’s a great occasion for him.” ARSENAL striker Danielle Carter is hoping history repeats itself at Wembley.

Carter, 24, scored the winner in the 2016 Women’s FA Cup final (above) when Arsenal beat Chelsea and they face each other again in a re-run today.

Arsenal are hoping to complete a domestic cup double having already won the League Cup and Carter believes that would represent a good season after what has been a turbulent year.

Carter said: “We were happy to have already won a trophy, now we can possibly do the Double – and the odds were stacked against that after the start to the season we had.

“It was a dream come true to play at Wembley, let alone score the winner in the final. It’s the best feeling you can have and I’d love it to happen again.”

The striker admits that Chelsea, higher in the league table, will start favourites but is backing her side to pull off an upset.

“They are probably favourites but in a one-off game, in a London derby, you can never completely predict what will happen,” she said.

“The new manager (Joe Montemurro) has come in and just got down to business and hopefully what we’ve done this season can be good for the future.”

It has been a big year for Carter, who was elected to the FA Council to try to help diversity within the game.

But she also has her sights set on earning an England recall as manager Phil Neville builds up to World Cup year.

She added: “It’s a step for change and hopefully I can make a difference as I also sit on the inclusions advisory board.

“I’d like to be involved again for England, it’s World Cup year and I think it’s do-able but I’ve just got to keep playing well.”
