POLITICS show host Andrew Marr faces his second major health battle in five years, this time against cancer.

The BBC presenter will have surgery this week to remove a malignant tumour on his kidney.

Marr, 58, told millions of viewers to The Andrew Marr Show yesterday that he would “be away for a couple of weeks”. He added: “I’m having a small operation and I will be back as soon as I possibly can.”

His agent Mary Greenham said yesterday that he is “expected to make a full recovery and will be returning to the airwaves soon”.

In January 2013 the former BBC Political Editor faced a gruelling fight back to health after suffering a major stroke.

He spent two months in hospital and had months of physiotherapy to help him walk.

Mr Marr, married to broadcaster Jackie Ashley, said he thought the stroke was triggered by vigorous use of a rowing machine. Doctors then found he had had two mini strokes in 2012.

Three months after his stroke, Mr Marr told viewers on his show he was “lucky to be alive”.

In January this year he quizzed Theresa May over treatment delays in the NHS.

Mr Marr told her: “If I’d been waiting five hours before I’d seen a doctor after my stroke, I would not be here talking to you.”
