Cycle official grateful for lucky escape
A TOUR de Yorkshire marshall has told of his relief after a cycling support car missed him by inches.
Phillip Sullivan, who was in a hi-vis vest and waving a yellow flag, leapt out of the way as the vehicle slammed through a traffic island he was standing on.
Relieved Phillip said: “My life flashed before my eyes. Time seemed to freeze and slow down.
“I just jumped to the right on to the pavement. I heard a massive bang behind me and felt the woosh of the car.”
Phillip had been directing riders in Leeds, on the final day of the 438-mile race on Sunday.
The car was being driven by a Team Astana member. Astana said: “We’re deeply sorry and want this to never happen again.”
