THERE’S a comical moment as the Secret Life nursery returns tonight, when the five year olds delve into the fancy-dress box.

BBC1, 9pm

This is the drama that has everything. Heroines, villains, romance, betrayal, skilful courtroom fights and most importantly, tasteful furniture.

With Oscar (Anthony Head) having returned like bad smell, Nina (Annabel Scholey) has figured out, well, overheard, the reason why.

He wants to sell his share of Defoe’s, but needs the signatures of his three daughters to do it. Time then for him to schmooze his way back into their good books – first by offering to walk Rose (Fiona Button) down the aisle.

Meanwhile, in other news of bad men, it transpires that Davey (Stephen Tompkinson) has been a little sneaky with his money.

And Goldie (Meera Syal), on bumping awkwardly into her former best mate, is responsible for one of the best lines of the episode: “You can screw my husband, but you’re not having my hairdresser as well.”

Expect to be reeled in even more as that pile of secrets continues to spill out and cause chaos.
