A DAY OF JOY NO.1 PRIORITY

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

JASON DAY has targeted a return to world No.1 after admitting his winless 2017 was a “good kick in the butt”.

The Aussie won his second PGA Tour event of the year at the Wells Fargo Championship to climb back up to world No.7.

And Day (right), who also won the Farmers Insurance Open in January, said: “Two wins and I’m looking for a Major next. I’m just trying to get back to No.1, that’s the ultimate goal.

“Ever since I was a kid, even more so than like Major championships, I always held No.1 above those for some reason even if I got burned out being No.1.

“Last year was a good kick in the butt, not playing great and seeing other guys succeed.

“For me to not work as hard as I should be and to be selfish in that mindset: ‘Well, I’m burned out, it’s OK to have an off year’. It really bugged me.’’
