ARV’S MARVEL
GARETH SOUTHGATE was in a crowd of 7,159 at Walsall to see Arvin Appiah blast a brilliant goal as England beat Italy 2-1 in the Under-17 European Championship.
Coach Steve Cooper’s boys trailed 1-0 before Nottingham Forest’s Appiah went on a mazy run and smashed home a 20-yarder in the 64th minute. Manchester City’s Tommy Doyle won it from the penalty spot.
England need a point from Thursday’s final group match against Switzerland at Rotherham to seal a quarter-final spot.
