Gosden star Corelli looks set to pass test in Lingfield Derby Trial
CORELLI is the value bet against favourite Kew Gardens in the Listed Betfred Derby Trial (2.30)
at Lingfield.
The John Gosden-trained colt is closely related to the stable’s Lucarno, who finished fourth to Authorized in the 2007 Derby before going on to lift the St Leger at Doncaster the following September. Whether Corelli can scale the same Classic heights remains to be seen – but he has certainly got his career off to a promising start. There was plenty of encouragement to be gleaned from his debut sixth at Nottingham last November, and Corelli duly stepped up to land a novice event at Wolverhampton 10 days later. My selection made his return to the fray in a three-runner affair at Yarmouth and landed skinny odds of 1-4 with the minimum of fuss. There is plenty more where that came from and Corelli is well worth the step up to Listed grade here. FLATTERING Kew Gardens’ stablemate is very much the horse to beat in the Listed Betfred Mobile Oaks Trial (1.55).
