Deaf dad fire engine death

A DEAF man was killed by a fire engine because he could not hear the sirens, an inquest heard.

Dad-of-one Matthew McPherson, 51, stepped out in front of the vehicle which was on a 999 call.

The crew tried to revive him but he died in hospital after the accident near his home in Northampton.

Senior Coroner Anne Pember told his inquest in the town: “There was nothing the driver could have done.”

Verdict: Accident.
