Channel 4, 8pm Jamie Oliver has churned out plenty of cookery shows, but he seems to have really hit the sweet spot with this one.
“It’s completely changed my life,” raves Jamie about his “new way of cooking”. You can’t knock his enthusiasm.
The idea is that each tasty recipe only requires five ingredients (disclaimer: Oh and the larder stuff, like oil and vinegar, salt and pepper).
He wants to get all of us cooking, which means not scaring us with a long list of ingredients, half of which are unpronounceable spices you need to hunt down at a Chinese supermarket.
And do you know what? It actually works. Series one served up plenty of accessible recipes and even had me reaching for my (largely unused) saucepans.
So, doubters, prepare to be inspired. In this episode, Jamie makes a flaky pastry pesto chicken, surf turf pasta, sausage bake and watermelon dessert.
“What’s not to love?” he says. He’s got a point.
