Today’s photo shows people fleeing as fights broke out between mods and rockers on Brighton seafront. Simmering tension between the two rival groups came to a head in the spring of 1964 as gangs clashed repeatedly on Britain’s seaside piers and promenades. During the so-called Brighton brawl, families were trapped amid some of the worst violence which sparked a moral panic about Britain’s youth.
