Bee-have yourself!
Meghan is all smiles... as Harry has a swat of bother
THERE was a real buzz around the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they took part in their first public engagement as a married couple.
But the queen bee at Buckingham Palace on this occasion was the one that flew into Prince Harry’s ear and sent Meghan, Prince Charles and Camilla into a fit of the giggles.
Harry and Meghan postponed their honeymoon to join 6,000 guests at Charles’s 70th birthday bash. As he gave a speech honouring his father, Harry lost his place and was heard saying: “Phffff... that bee really got me.”
Meghan, in a dress by British label Goat and a hat by Philip Treacy, put her hand to her mouth, chuckling, as she realised a bee had bumbled into her husband’s ear.
Camilla was also laughing, and Charles, who had not seen it, leaned across so she and Meghan could share the joke.
Harry quickly composed himself and carried on his speech, affectionately addressing his father as “Pa” throughout.
He paid tribute to Charles’s “passion and dedication” and spoke of his father’s quest “to contribute to the enrichment of society both in this country and around the world”.
Guests selected from charities and military associations most closely linked with Charles had packed into the gardens on a beautiful sunny day for music, speeches, and, of course, a cup of tea and a cucumber sandwich.
Harry later spoke of the Manchester Arena bombing, and paid tribute to the emergency services. He said: “It is right that we take a moment to recognise the amazing work they do, and how each member of our blue light services rise to meet the challenge of tragic events such as the attack a year ago.”
Prince Charles’s birthday is actually on November 14, and he is expected to have a private party closer to the day.
