First TV role for 30 years

-

RICHARD Gere is to appear in a new BBC2 drama series – his first TV role in three decades.

The Pretty Woman actor will star as American media mogul Max alongside Helen McCrory as his British heiress ex-wife Kathryn in eight-parter MotherFatherSon.

Billy Howle will play their 30-yearold son Caden, who runs Max’s UK newspaper and is primed to follow in his dad’s footsteps before his selfdestructive lifestyle spirals out of control and threatens everything.

Gere says: “It’s been almost 30 years since I worked in television. I’m so pleased to be working now with the BBC on this extraordinary eight- hour project with such talented people and which resonates so much to the time we live in.”

The drama is penned by Tom Rob Smith who also wrote London Spy and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. McCrory says: “Tom’s written the most astonishing script – completely original and full of surprises.” Filming will take place in London and Spain this summer. Hilary Salmon, executive producer for BBC Studios Drama, admits: “When we embarked on casting we didn’t dare dream of the quality we now have in place.”
