‘Test at birth’ for glaucoma
THE chances of a person developing glaucoma could be spotted at birth.
Experts have identified genetic risk factors behind the leading cause of incurable blindness – 480,000 people in England have it.
Scientists hope the “breakthrough” could lead to a screening programme and focus “scarce resources on those most at risk”.
Researchers from King’s College London and University College London, and the US, made predictions with 75% accuracy.
