ROSS and DEMELZA POLDARK (Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson)

In the wake of Demelza’s fling with Hugh Armitage, whose love for her remains as ardent as ever, Ross realises how it feels to be on the receiving end of an extra-marital affair.

Aidan says: “Ross is not entirely sure what has or hasn’t happened with Hugh and Demelza but, regardless, this affects him a lot because he realises there were more emotions involved than if it was just a fleeting attraction.

“He sees Demelza has fallen for Hugh and understands what this is about; he’s been through the same with Elizabeth. He knows it’s complicated and that there is a lot at stake.”

Eleanor says Ross leaves for his new role as an MP before she is able to tell him how much she loves him. “She misses him terribly but Demelza is someone who just gets on with things, so it is unsurprising that she is better than him at handling their separation.”

Left in charge at the family’s Nampara home, Demelza spends a lot of her time trying to help her brothers Drake and Sam. But when her character ventures to London, she has some rather unwanted attention from socialite MP Monk.
