Schools face toxic air risk

THREATS Zak Bolland Demi Pearson, 15, brother Brandon, eight and sister, Lacie, seven, sleeping in a front bedroom, all died in the fire on December 11 in Walkden, Greater Manchester.

Their severely injured mother was rescued with her youngest daughter, Lia, three, who died in hospital two days later. Kyle escaped with his pal Bobby Harris.

It was only six weeks ago that Michelle, 36, who had been in a coma, was told her HELPER Courtney Brierly children had died. Their grandfathe­r Mike Pearson said: “She had to be told all her babies had gone.”

Four hours before the arson attack, Bolland had gone to the house and told Michelle: “Get your son out here. Boot the door off. I am going to break his jaw. I am going to do your house.”

Bolland and Worrall denied murder but were convicted at Manchester crown court. Bolland was also found guilty of

the attempted murder of the three survivors. He will serve a minimum 40 years.

Worrall was cleared of that charge but convicted of attempted GBH, and will serve a minimum 37 years. Bolland’s then-girlfriend Courtney Brierley, 20, who was with them and encouraged and assisted the attack, was found guilty of manslaught­er and jailed for 21 years.
