WHAT IS IT? Nystagmus
Sometimes called “dancing eyes” because the eyes flick back and forward, this brain disorder derives from a part of the inner ear, the labyrinth, that helps control eye movements. As a result, people with nystagmus have rapid, uncontrollable eye movements.
Nystagmus can be congenital (present at birth), but it can also develop from the use of an anti-seizure medication called phenytoin, as well as from severe head injuries, strokes, and inner ear disorders.
