I’m very honoured to be speaking tonight at Toxteth Library in Liverpool with Richard Blair – the son of George Orwell – along with George Garrett’s grandson Sean.
We’re going to be talking about Garrett, the working class writer who is one of the great discoveries of our Wigan Pier Project. Orwell hugely admired Garrett, who struggled to write because of the demands of family and his work at sea as a stoker.
