Mac faces a Monster
JAMIE McDONNELL claims he will finally get the credit he deserves when he beats Japanese star Naoya Inoue in his Tokyo backyard today.
McDonnell, whose achievements are barely recognised outside of his home town of Doncaster, makes the seventh defence of his WBA bantamweight crown against Inoue – who is nicknamed ‘The Monster’.
The Yorkshire fighter, who is unbeaten in 10 years, claims all that will change when he defeats Inoue, who is bidding to be a three-weight world champ in only his 16th fight.
McDonnell, 32, who is 29-2-1, said: “I’ve gone under the radar the last couple of years, but this fight puts me right up there.
“When I beat Inoue everyone in the world will know my name. That has given me the motivation to make yet another successful world-title defence. I’ve got to win at all costs.”
