Drive off into the sunset?

- PETER KAY’S CAR SHARE

BBC1, 10pm

FANS of Peter Kay’s commuter comedy were so devastated by the unresolved ending of the last series that they set up an online petition. And it worked!

More than 100,000 viewers signed it, demanding a proper conclusion to the series, which saw Kayleigh (Sian Gibson) finally admit her true feelings for John (Kay).

We all yelled at the telly as Kayleigh jumped into a taxi crying after John refused to say how he felt. Even worse, we knew that had Kayleigh stayed in that red Fiat for one more minute, she would have heard the song John had dedicated to her on Forever FM.

It seemed the pair might have parted for good.

But, thank goodness, Peter Kay listened to the fans and has written this brand new episode to reveal what happens next for the pair.

“We thought people might be a bit miffed but never thought they would be so devastated,” says Peter. “We decided to write another episode that hopefully gave the characters a resolve. I just hope viewers won’t be screaming at the telly again.”

“Even I was screaming at the telly and I knew what happened!” adds Sian.

So, with no third series to look forward to, let’s hope that we will get answers from this one-off “last ever” Car Share.

We have grown to love John and Kayleigh, forced to commute in a supermarket car share scheme to the background of cheesy fictional radio station Forever FM. But will they finally get together?

We’ll have our petition ready just in case.
