FROOME NOT TROUBLED BY TREBLE

CYCLING

- BY MIKE WALTERS

CHRIS FROOME insists his conscience is “absolutely clear” after his stunning triumph at the Giro d’Italia made him only the third rider in history to hold all three Grand Tour titles simultaneously.

A spike in a sample in September which showed twice the permitted level of asthma medication salbutamol continues to dog Froome.

Some critics believe he should not be allowed to compete until an inquiry into the anomaly is complete.

But Froome (above) said: “I had every right to be at the Giro. As I’ve said before, I know I’ve done nothing wrong.

“I find it very interesting people are quick to jump to conclusions.. I’ve an absolutely clear conscience and I have no doubts this result will stand the test of time.”
