Rivals would love Ramos in their side

-

MUCH has been made of Sergio Ramos’ challenge on Mo Salah in Saturday’s final.

People have gone on Twitter and have been sanctimonious, but whether you like it or not, Salah was Liverpool’s key threat and he basically dealt with him.

It’s down to the authorities, it’s down to the law makers, it’s down to UEFA and FIFA to do something.

If they watch the video back and see he has ruthlessly grabbed Salah’s arm and yanked it out of its socket, then it’s at UEFA’s behest to hand out some punishment.

The reality is when I was playing 20, 25 years ago, that challenge by Ramos (above) would have been seen as fair physical combat.

In today’s modern game, it’s not.

But I do feel people are getting holier than thou about it. Let’s face it, the man is a serial winner and every single Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich fan would love him in their team.

Ramos is a ruthless competitor who has bent the rules, maybe broken the rules. But for me, if you are allowed to do so, then it is the fault of the football authorities.

They don’t seem to want to do anything about it – so he feels he is operating within the rules.
