LALLANA’S IN HURRY TO BE FIT

-

ADAM LALLANA will report for England duty early in a desperate attempt to get himself fit for the World Cup.

He will go to St George’s Park tomorrow even though Gareth Southgate gave Liverpool’s England players an extended break after the Champions League final.

The midfielder (above) is on standby for Russia but injury has restricted him to just three starts this season. Southgate, who believes history shows one first-choice player nearly always drops out, was at the Champions League final and could see Lallana was lacking his usual sharpness when he came on as a sub for Mo Salah.

His Reds team-mates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson will not have to report until after Saturday’s game with Nigeria.

Chelsea and Manchester United players were allowed an extra week’s rest after the FA Cup final.

United midfielder Jesse Lingard was a concern with an ankle problem but trained yesterday. Leicester’s Harry Maguire sat it out as he has played so much this season.

Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah was called up for the session after injury forced James Tarkowsi off the standby list.
