Usio Energy New London firm installs smart meters in all customers’ homes. People’s Energy Crowdfunde­d, it launched in July 2017 after raising £487,815 of a £200,000 target. It is offering free energy in return for pledges until it reaches a milestone 20,000 customers. Ovo Energy Bristol-based firm was founded in 2009 and is one of the fastest-growing new suppliers with more than 400,000 customers.

Good Energy Wiltshire-based firm supplies energy to more than 66,000 customers. While it scores highly for customer satisfacti­on, its tariffs aren’t always the cheapest.

Octopus Energy Launched in April 2016 and more than 160,000 households signed up in just 18 months. It is the UK’s biggest solar energy investor.
