SIR CLIVE WOODWARD said the Barbarians 63-45 win over England at Twickenham last Sunday was “embarrassing to professional rugby and professional sport”.

Leaving aside the fact it was thoroughly entertaining – what the paying punter quite likes, the last time I checked – the only thing embarrassing to professional rugby was that the best English player on the pitch cannot represent his country because he plays in France.
