Goalie saved by a terrific team
Last week’s Champion’s League Final showed the glitz and glamour of professional football. But away from the bright lights, even footballers can face tough times at work.
Like Alan Knight, a much-loved Portsmouth goalie who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction.
Thankfully his trade union – the Professional Footballers’ Association – was there to help, getting him into rehab and back on his feet.
Today, Alan is a union rep, who makes sure young players keep up their education and have access to mental health support.
Stories like his make me proud to be a trade unionist.
