Bielsa the top pick for Leeds
MARCELO BIELSA is Leeds’ No.1 choice to succeed Paul Heckingbottom as their new head coach.
As revealed by Mirror Sport, Heckingbottom was sacked yesterday after just four months in charge because Leeds did not feel he was the right man to lead a promotion push.
Leeds were looking for the Yorkshireman’s replacement before the season ended and are in talks with the former Argentina and Chile boss.
Bielsa, 62, has been out of work since leaving Lille in December after just seven months with the French side.
Leeds feel the Argentinian has the stature and experience to guide them back to the Premier League and will bankroll him with the windfall from their considerable investment deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
Heckingbottom knew his days were numbered when the club hierarchy would not agree to his transfer targets at a meeting before he went on holiday.
Whites managing director Angus Kinnear said: “Paul has conducted himself in an exemplary manner, despite results not going as we had hoped.”
