Justice Minister backs Mirror bid to introduce Helen’s Law

- BY LOUIE SMITH

A JUSTICE minister has backed our push for a “No Body, No Parole” law.

Ian Simms murdered Helen McCourt, 22, in 1988, but has repeatedly refused to reveal the location of her body.

Helen’s mum Marie, 74, wants killers who hide their victims’ remains to stay behind bars for life. Justice Minister Rory Stewart yesterday backed the law change during Commons questioning. He said: “There is something peculiarly disgusting about the sadism involved in murdering someone and refusing to reveal the location of the victim’s body.” He will discuss options with the Secretary of State this month. Hundreds of thousands of people signed Marie’s petition for “Helen’s Law”. Simms was recently allowed out of jail on day release, raising fears he will soon get parole.
