THE Royal College of Nursing chief said: “Politician­s would be unwise to ignore the public’s demand for extra funding. The NHS is on a financial knife-edge and taxpayers are now expecting decisive action.

“For as long as hospitals remain £1billion in the red, patients will pay a heavy price. They need a genuine cash boost to begin filling the 40,000 vacant nurse jobs.”
