NATO’s splits are ‘like Suez’

NATO’s chief compared splits triggered by Donald Trump to the Suez crisis.

Secretary general Jens Stoltenberg highlighted fallouts over the Paris climate deal, steel tariffs and the Iran nuclear pact.

He said: “There are now serious disagreements between NATO allies.

“We have seen differences before, all the way back to the 1950s where NATO allies disagreed in the Suez crisis.”

He called for unity ahead of a summit next month.
