Robot wars

THE warning that millions of jobs will soon be lost to automation should be a wake-up call for the Government.

A report by Red Shift says the march of the robots and AI could destroy five times more working-class jobs than Margaret Thatcher’s shutdown of the steel and mining industries.

We cannot halt progress. Nor can we pretend it will not happen. But can we prepare for the change. This government appears indifferent to the problem but should be investing in training for people to find alternative work.

This is one of the major challenges of our generation that will affect a range of jobs.

It is not a question of the survival of the fittest but making sure everyone is fit enough to survive.
