Butter toast as cost soars
TOAST lovers are ditching butter for cheaper spreads as prices rocket.
The average cost of a 250g pack has risen by a third in a year to £1.80 in many supermarkets.
But while demand for butter has dropped, sales of spreads such as margarine are up by 13%.
Trade magazine The Grocer warned the cost could rise further.
It said: “Butter is almost worth its weight in gold thanks to eye-watering price rises.”
