YOUR MEMORIES

This is my grandad, George Crawley, and my nan, Isobella. My dad Alfred is on her lap next to my uncle George. My grandad went off to war soon after this photo was taken and was killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on July 1, 1916. His regiment was Devonshire and his grave is in their cemetery at Mametz in France. My nan bought up her sons on her own in a small flat in Islington, North London. My father later served in the RAF as a Physical Training Instructor during the Second World War.
