NEYMAR’S GOAL IS A STEP INTO HISTORY

-

Austria 0 Brazil 3 NEYMAR’S brilliant strike drew him level with Romario in the list of all-time Brazil scorers as they cruised to a victory in their final World Cup warm-up match.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker registered his 55th international goal.

Neymar struck in the 63rd minute against Austria in Vienna when he collected the ball on the left of the area, performed a drag-back which left Aleksandar Dragovic on the floor before sending his shot between keeper Heinz Lindner’s legs.

Neymar is now joint-third in Brazil’s scoring charts with Romario – behind only Ronaldo (62) and Pele (77).

And it was sweet justice for Neymar, who was on the receiving end of some rough challenges and needed treatment after one tackle from behind.

Brazil coach Tite said: ”The concentration and competitiveness of the team was laudable.

“Today was another example that, mentally, we are maturing.

“It was a difficult match, with heavy physical contact and we did really well.”

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Marcelo’s drive was deflected for the Manchester City striker to curl in from an angle.

Philippe Coutinho made it 3-0 after swapping passes with former Liverpool teammate Roberto Firmino.
