NHS to ‘help medics learn from errors’
NHS medics who make “honest mistakes” will be given more support, Jeremy Hunt pledges today.
The Health Secretary has accepted the findings of a review into the use of gross negligence manslaughter in healthcare.
He said: “I was deeply concerned about the unintended chilling effect on clinicians’ ability to learn from mistakes following recent court rulings.”
He said the NHS would “support them to learn, rather than seek to blame”.
The review came after a trainee paediatrician was convicted of gross negligence manslaughter in 2015 and then struck off.
