May is the ‘worst PM in our lifetime’

-

It is hard to believe that, two years after the EU referendum, and nine months before we finally withdraw from the European Union, we are in such a state over Brexit.

It is even harder to believe that the Conservative Party are preparing to use the support of a handful of DUP MPs to force through a hardline policy on Europe that is against the wishes and the interests of the British people. Maybe it will trigger an election.

If not, it will go down in history as the biggest betrayal of democracy ever seen in this country. Jacob ReesMogg should be ashamed of himself. Nobody asked us if we wanted to leave the customs union. Anthony Connor Droylsden, Manchester

Brexit is a complete shambles. The Tory party has burdened our country with some of the weakest Prime Ministers in modern times. I thought David Cameron was bad but in Theresa May we have the poorest Prime Minister ever. Members of her cabinet openly criticise her but she is so weak she doesn’t have the backbone to sack them. W Williams, Pontyberem

Theresa May is trying to buy herself yet more time to screw it up – because two years wasn’t enough already? Seriously, she’s the worst PM in my lifetime and that’s saying something after Thatcher. I was alive in the 70s, a society much better than we have today. At least there was full-time work with none of this gig economy and zero-hour contract jobs nonsense. Not only that, folk actually had a disposable income. Colin Davies, Liverpool

This mess isn’t what we voted for. Almost everything the Leave campaign promised looks to be in doubt. There needs to be another vote so the people make an informed decision now the facts are clearer.

So many people have been duped by the Leave campaign and if they knew what a disaster this was going to be, Remain would’ve won by a landslide. I hope at least the MPs go for a soft Brexit. Alexander Conway, Blackpool

If you genuinely want to stop Brexit, you need to back the Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives have made a right mess in trying to leave the EU while Labour are sitting back doing nothing, as they do not want to lose supporters by actually making a decision one way or another.

Firms are closing because of the uncertainty, workers are leaving the UK and we have unrest on our streets. Our economy is weak, growth is next to nothing and the property market has been affected.

It is a total farce. Richard F Grant, Hampshire

It is quite clear that the Conservatives cannot handle Brexit. It is simply beyond their capabilities to come up with a clear position behind which they can unite themselves, parliament and the country.

The Government has wasted the past two years arguing amongst themselves and the future is beginning to look very dark.

Today the Tory party appears to be heading for a nervous breakdown. It’s said that a nation gets the government it deserves. Well, we’ve got it. Caroline Harris, London
