I was extremely moved and encouraged by your feature on the wonderful actor David Harewood and his experiences with mental health problems (Mirror, June 13).

His message that trauma can be overcome and turned into a positive life-affirming experience was inspirational.

He is truly courageous and I’m sure gives real hope to many who have suffered similar episodes of mental illness. Lucy Short Bournemouth

Once again the Tories prove themselves the party which closes the stable door after the horse has bolted. It’s unbelievable they did not see the obesity crisis among our children coming and take action years ago. Do these people never walk our streets or pick their kids up from school?

The fact that our already stretched NHS will almost certainly be overwhelmed when these children reach middle age should have spurred them into action. But once again they ignored the obvious. Roger Grant, Thurnscoe South Yorks
