Ex cop’s sex abuse tweets ‘disrespectful’
WITHIN hours of Leslie Grantham’s death yesterday, a former detective published claims that he had been investigated over “compelling evidence” he sexually abused a teenage schoolgirl.
Critics were quick to call the claim by investigative reporter Mark Williams Thomas on Twitter “very disrespectful to his family”. It is alleged that the girl came forward in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal and the same team scrutinised the EastEnders actor. Mr Williams-Thomas helped to expose Savile as a prolific paedophile. He said he had an email from the girl who was “very, very scared” and passed the claim about Grantham to Scotland Yard’s Operation Yewtree in 2012. The girl allegedly decided not to pursue it and there was no arrest. Mr Williams-Thomas said: “She stated that he [Grantham] had sexually abused her in 2009/10 when she was aged around 14 or 15 and that it had been going on for some time.
“She had compelling evidence against him relating to communications they had, as well as another crucial piece of evidence.” Scotland Yard refused to comment.
