The lunch hunch romance of Ascot

Royal Ascot starts on Tuesday, always a memorable time for me as that’s where I first sort of noticed my husband, despite knowing him as a colleague for years. It was 1996, when Ascot was still a genteel affair, rather than the drinkathon followed by a punch-up that it sometimes is now. We were both reporting from there for GMTV and, after we’d finished our duties, drove back to London and went for lunch. He liked it that I ate a lot apparently!
