March to show your pride and faith in the NHS
Rally celebrates 70 years of care
UP to 100,000 people are set to descend on Downing Street on Saturday week to mark 70 years since the NHS was founded.
Families will celebrate the achievements and founding principles of our world-leading health service.
And the Mirror is calling on you to join us at the #OurNHS70 march.
But the rally, on June 30 in London, will also be a protest against brutal cuts and privatisation, which have left our treasured service on its knees.
Sam Fairbairn, of The People’s Assembly, said: “We’ll be celebrating our NHS at 70 but also protesting, because our NHS is under attack.
“Services are being cut, hospitals are closing, there are staffing shortages and increasing parts of our health service are being outsourced to private firms.”
Dr Aislinn Macklin-Doherty, of
Health Campaigns Together, urged people to “come and celebrate”. She said: “For 70 years the NHS has set a shining example of what can be achieved when we make the choice to look after the collective good.” Backing the call, TUC’s Frances
O’Grady said: “Nearly everyone has reason to thank the NHS. The best way to thank the health service for taking care of us is to demand that Government takes better care of it.”
Len McCluskey, of Unite, added: “This is our NHS, let’s get out on the streets and defend it.”
