From Russia with love for Kane as the world goes nuts for skipper ...now even Poch is rooting for England

- FROM DARREN LEWIS in Volgograd

HARRY KANE has revealed text-mad Mauricio Pochettino is inspiring the striker’s World Cup Golden Boot bid.

The England hitman was in the Volgograd dressing room when the Tottenham boss texted his backing after Monday night’s brace to beat Tunisia. Kane said: “Poch texted me, and after the game as well. “He sent a lot of love hearts and said, ‘Come on England!’ He is rooting for me. “He has a lot of lads here. He is not just my

GARETH SOUTHGATE is still refusing to describe Harry Kane as world class.

Southgate insists that Kane must score regularly on the biggest stage before he belongs in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Three Lions captain Kane has already won back-toback Golden Boots in the Premier League and was England’s hero against Tunisia with his first goals in a major tournament.

But Southgate says Kane needs to carry on scoring at the World Cup before he can claim to be a world-class player and go on to become an England great.

England boss Southgate (above, with Kane) said: “I’m going to keep challenging him on that because I’m always a little uncertain as to what that title means and what you need to do to really gain it.

“I think he’s shown selfbelief over a period of time now in the Premier League.

“The next stage was to do that at a world tournament and that’s how you really establish yourself as a leading world player.

“But he’s a player we are privileged to have and I’m delighted to have him as my captain.”

Southgate’s “world-class” point is an incentive to push Kane – rather than a put-down.

The England boss added: “He’s focused and he’s capable of playing on any stage and scoring goals. So he’s off and running now – that gives us great belief whenever we are attacking.

“I’m delighted for him because, in those previous tournaments for different reasons, things did not quite go the way he hoped.

“The best players have self-belief – the Gerrards, Shearers and Lampards do.

“It’s the psychological strength that separates the really top people from the ones that are the next level down.”
