Cuts ‘could halt half of bus routes’

NEARLY half of all bus routes in England could be axed under savage budget cuts, Town Hall chiefs warn. More than 12,000 routes are fully or partially subsidised but the Local Government Association says councils could face a funding gap topping £5billion by 2020 – making it impossible to subsidise free travel when vital services are struggling.
