Bee Moved has sting taken out
There’s been another instalment in the unhappy saga of the National Guild of Removers and Storers.
I’ve previously told how this trade body for the removal industry has a habit of suing past and present members. The latest case is typical. A removal company called Bee Moved Limited was a member of the Guild and then decided it no longer wanted to be and left.
Three years later Bee Moved was referred to as still being a member in the directory section of a website used by people moving house – Really Moving.com.
Bee Moved didn’t put the reference there but that didn’t stop the Guild suing the company for misrepresenting itself as a Guild member.
A High Court judge threw out the claim in 2016, and now that ruling has been confirmed at an appeal.
“The misrepresentation was not made by Bee Moved and it was not responsible for it,” ruled Lady Justice Asplin. “It was an act of an independent third party – in this case the owner or operator of the Really Moving website and not that of Bee Moved.”
